Hurricane Sandy Volunteer Opportunities
When a crisis takes place, our instinct is to instantly respond — and to extend a helping hand. Together, we’re alleviating some of the suffering of our fellow New Yorkers who are still without power, food, and other necessities.
Please see the details below on the many worthwhile projects available. For additional opportunities, please fill out a form and someone will contact you shortly. Or donate to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

Volunteer with NECHAMA – Jewish Response to Disaster on Long Island, a project funded by UJA-Federation of New York's Connect to Recovery. Help with construction and clean-up of homes and institutions that have been damaged by Hurricane Sandy. NECHAMA will provide the specific details of volunteer assignments. Volunteers should be prepared for physical exertion, but no previous experience is required. Training and supervision will be conducted by NECHAMA.
In addition to the dangers inherent in this type of activity, UJA-Federation has been advised that there is certain health and other types of hazards associated with recovery projects involving storm or flood damage, such as mold or other airborne particulate matter. We strongly recommend that each volunteer consult with his or her personal physician before undertaking this work.
If you need assistance with storm-related clean up, please contact Elana Marcus at F•E•G•S, a UJA-Federation beneficiary agency, acting as NECHAMA's local partner, at 1.516.496.7550 (press 6) or email
